The Marquis — The Royal Envoy

A characterful handcrafted bird inspired by the elegance and ceremony of an old European court.

Dressed in a softly aged grey coat, fitted waistcoat and an elaborate feathered tricorn-style hat, The Marquis carries the air of a royal envoy arriving with important news from somewhere far beyond the palace gates.

Individually sculpted from paper, cotton and mixed media, the piece has been carefully shaped, layered, textured and painted entirely by hand. Soft ivory and stone tones are contrasted with muted charcoal grey, then finished with an aged patina to give the sculpture the character of a treasured object from another time.

A ruffled cravat, tiny buttons, decorative shoulder fringe and a dramatic feather complete his wonderfully theatrical appearance.

Full of personality and old-world charm, The Marquis is designed as a standalone decorative sculpture, a small character with a story of his own.

Each piece is entirely handmade, so irregularities, visible texture and variations in the aged finish are an intentional part of its individual character.
